ISN"T IT TIME THE POLITICIANS LISTENED TO US?

The response to this campaign has been overwhelming, which proves that the Animal-loving Australian general public is behind the BIll. Here are some comments and please, keep spreading the word!

"We cannot allow companion animals to suffer and die for profit any longer. We need to regulate the pet industry - stop the overbreeding (close down puppy and kitten mills and stop backyard breeders), sell animals responsibly to informed and aware buyers. The disgusting euthanasia rate needs to be slashed. Local and State Government, the Pet Industry need to act with compassion and conscience - no more vested interests and corruption. Regulation the pet industry now!"
Susan, NSW

"This bill can't wait any longer.  Pets are being born into squalor every day.  Unwanted pets are being euthanased every day, at the rate of up to 1,000 a week.  This has to stop.  The paradigm of pet ownership MUST be altered.  The purchase of animals MUST carry with it responsibility IN LAW. Register owners, not animals."
Peter, NSW

"This needs to be a national issue, not just for NSW. Pet shops and puppy farms are cruel and should be stopped! STOP ANIMAL CRUELTY!! We have the power and the ability!"
Caitlin, VIC

"I used to work in a pet store, but I quit, i found it absolutely disgusting the way the animals were treated, and the state the animals arrived in, it was horrible :( I really support this :) it's a great cause."
Ashley, NSW

"I'm only 14 years old and I've wanted someone to put a bill on this issue. I see pets in pet stores all depressed with bad health issues and not treated right by the workers and managers at the shops. it's not a good way to get these pets into new homes especially since there are many complaints by the owners who buy one from the shops and they even pass away quicker. I'm surprised this hasn't been banned yet and the world needs to open their eyes (and mind) and take notice on this problem and take action for those who can't speak. i just hope this is all banned ASAP."
Danielle, USA

"I agree with this bill entirely. There are far to many dogs and cats euthanised unnecessarily. A great deal of thought should be put into buying an animal as they are for life.  Not for novelty."
Maryanne, NSW

"I believe a lot of thought is required before buying an animal - pet shops encourage impulse buying.  Further taking babies away from their mothers and sticking them in glass cages is totally inhumane."
Sue, NSW

"I work in the animal industry.  It is sad to see pups and kittens sitting in store windows weeks on end.  It is cruel that they can be used to generate sales for some pet stores that do not care for the welfare of these animals, only lining their pockets.  Pets Paradise self admit in their franchise information that pups and kittens are displayed to attract people to the stores. I really believe there is a right and a wrong way to take on a new pet into your home.  A pet store isn't the right way.  They tend to encourage impulse buyers.  Please add my vote in support to the bill of banning pets from pet stores."
Jacqueline, VIC

"Working in a veterinary clinic for the past 8 years I strongly encourage the passing of the Animals (Regulation of Sale) bill. No one understands the way in which these animals are kept and their unhygienic living conditions. Pet shops are out to make money and do not necessarily think of the animals wellbeing before this."
Kelly, NSW

"I believe that much more regulation of pet sales is needed to stop unnecessary cruelty and deaths. action should have been taken sooner than this! At least there are people out there considering this to be a big problem now!"
Nichola, WA

"Its sick. People need to learn how to properly buy a pet, and it would be so much more beneficial to pounds and the RSPCA because people would be tempted to save an animal and pay perhaps less than buying one from a breeder. It is overall 100% better for the animals."
Katherine, NSW

"I commend this initiative - it seems a crime to encourage impulse pet purchases when so many creatures are languishing in pounds and rescue shelters."
Louise, NSW

"I very much agree with this, a girl I worked with brought a puppy because it was cute. She put no effort into training the dog, it developed terrible habits and when she tried to give it away cause she could no longer look after it, its behavior stopped it from finding a loving home. Despite my efforts to help find a home (I have a dog of my own for 5 years now) she gave it to the pound. I don't believe she should ever have been allowed to own a dog. It was a great shame as the dog itself was a loving creature but was never shown right from wrong."
Gemma, NSW

"Both my dogs are from rescue organisations and I regularly walk dogs at pounds. If people saw the condition that animals arrive in at pounds or heard their sorry stories, I'm sure they'd support this bill too!"
Yvonne, NSW

"We, as a society, must be more accountable for the health and wellbeing of all living things.  We must stop the impulse buying of any animal and there needs to be better laws and more law enforcement officers specifically for Animals."
Gillion, NSW

"Every time I visit a shopping centre I am appalled by the sight of poor little creatures 'on show' in windows - there for their 'cutesy' value and probably bought for the same reason - on a whim - and later abandoned when commitment is required. The sale of pets should be restricted to either breeders or those who rescue abandoned,ill-treated or handed in animals. Shop fronts are NOT the place."
Jan, NSW

"I'm writing in support of this act.  We are a modern western country yet we still don't seem to be able to stop animal cruelty on our own doorstep. This is a step forward and means that cruel breeding processes will be stopped and hopefully pet buyers will think more in depth about their purchases rather than buying off the shelf and tossing their purchase later.  These are living, breathing beings and need more help from those of us that can."
Erica, NSW

"If anyone doubts the veracity of what Clover Moore is trying to accomplish, please watch the movie Eartlhings on U Tube. It only scratches the surface but it will make you profoundly ashamed of the human species. Most importantly, get involved. Do something about it. This is a crime of indescribably proportions. And it is getting worse by the minute."
Phillip, VIC
